First day: Research, innovation and competitiveness of Europe

Module I Policies, programmes, initiatives

  • The 7th Framework Programme and the Competitivity and Innovation Program from
    the EU, and some wider initiatives such as i2010 (representative from EU). The role of venture capital, incubators, public authorities (financial sector and a political authority)
  • The experience of NMS and ACC in RTDI strategies and programmes, including technology transfer and innovation (Romania, Poland, Lithuania).

Module II Innovation ecosystems and infrastructures

  • The role of research and innovation ecosystems; examples: Grenoble, Dresden, Leuven – Aachen - Eindhoven (regional decision makers)
  • Bottom-up initiatives: networks, such as IVAM
  • The role of institutes and some wider initiatives (MINATEC-LETI, LETI-ST;
    IMEC-Industrial affiliation program; Holst Centre-IMEC-TNO, MiPlaza-Philips,
    Fhg-AMD-Infineon) including role of needed infrastructures (heads of institutes responsible for technology transfer and for innovation)
  • Round-table discussion

Second day: The potential of integrating/converging technologies (micro-nano-bio-info) for economic growth

Module III

  • The particular case of integrating and/or converging technologies: micro – nano – bio – info (an introductory speech). Features: their perspective for economic growth; the role of services; needed infrastructure; other cooperative initiatives.
  • applications in various fields (examples)

Module IV

  • Output of a few foresight exercises related to the field, as obtained during the Romanian strategy project ROST
  • Round-table discussion and conclusions
