Abstract.
Porous alginate scaffolds were prepared from alginic acid sodium salt with sodium dodecyl sulfate as foaming agent and NaCl as porogen agent. The cross linking process was studied at different CaCl2 concentrations (1, 5 and 10%). The lyophilized samples of calcium alginate were structurally investigated using of different methods. The cross-linking was evidenced by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and pore dimensions were determined by scanning electron microscopy. The porous scaffolds were compared with calcium alginate beads prepared by dropwise method.
