INTEGRATED TRANSFORMERS FOR RF APPLICATIONS. ANALYSIS OF THE WIDTH OF TRACKS

Abstract. The goal of this paper is to analyze the effect of the trace width on the coupling factor of integrated transformers. The model of an integrated transformer is presented and the related phenomena are studied. To check the effect of the width of track, three transformers have been designed and fabricated in CMOS 0.18 µm technology. The characterization method is presented and from the results of this characterization some conclusions have been obtained. For obtaining a high coupling factor it is important to reduce the spacing between tracks to the minimum allowed by the technology.
