CARBON NANOTUBE-BASED OSCILLATORS AND AMPLIFIERS FOR TERAHERTZ SIGNALS
M. DRAGOMAN, D. DRAGOMAN

Abstract. The paper presents the simulation and discusses the implementation of carbon nanotube-based oscillators and amplifiers for THz signals. The THz oscillator is a resonant tunneling diode made from a single-walled carbon nanotube, while the THz amplifier is based on the Gunn effect in a semiconductor carbon nanotube array biased with a dc electric field. These devices exceed the performances of similar semiconductor heterostructure devices and have potential important applications in far-infrared spectroscopy and imaging.
