Abstract. This paper presents a new topology for multi-bit distributed MEMS transmission lines (DMTL) working on the principle of MEMS capacitors loading a coplanar waveguide. Compared with the usual way to achieve multi-bit operation, namely by cascading similar line sections of different length, we show that interlacing bridges of different capacitance values allows improving the matching properties of the DMTL, which also reduce the oscillations in the delay. A complete design method for such DMTL has been developed and an excellent agreement between the lumped model used for the design and full-wave simulation is observed.
