Practical Information
Date & Venue: 2 & 3 February 2003, Lozenberg 7 Sint-Stevens-Woluwe
Start time & End time: Meeting starting at 10:00 on Monday 2nd and scheduled to end not later than 16:00 on Tuesday 3rd February 2004.
Programme: Final program to be announced soon. For the morning of the Monday 2nd essentially presentation of EC Officers are foreseen. In the afternoon a free forum would be provided to potential co-ordinators to present their project. On Tuesday the 3rd separate meeting rooms will be made available for dedicated project discussion for those who would so require.
Registration: Registration is required but there are no attendance fees.

Functional genomics and molecular markers for prevention of type 1 diabetes - INTEGRATED PROJECT.  The project should elucidate the mechanistic relationships of genetic determinants (e.g. immune-genetic determinants such as certain HLA haplotypes) in the development of type 1 diabetes with the view to help designing better strategies for the prevention of the disease.

Genetic and molecular diagnostic markers of alcoholic liver diseases (especially orientated towards involvement of SMEs) - STREP Deliverables are the identification of diagnostic markers for the development of tests which display clear advantages over currently available tests.

Ageing of elastic tissue (especially orientated towards involvement of SMEs) - STREP The objective is to investigate the mechanisms of homeostasis and degradation of elastic tissues (e.g. skin,  blood vessels and the lung). Of particular importance will be understanding the relationship between altered structure of elastic tissues seen with age in relation to tissue function.

Visit in Romania (14 May, 2004) of Director Ezio Andreta (Directorate Industrial technologies, DG III, European Commission), at the invitation of the Secretary of State for Research from the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research. At this event will be launched officially the Romanian Initiative in Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies.

Workshop
on nanobiotechnologies with IMEC, Belgium (Dr. Hercule Neves) and the CENOBITE consortium (virtual centre of research in nanobiotechnologies, Romania), at the Romanian Academy, on 4th of May 2004.
